Coos Bay, Oregon
A highlight of HGE’s public involvement process and community outreach is the Coos Bay Fire Station #1 project. HGE provided the type of services that we provide, as needed, for most municipal/public entities: pre-funding site analysis, pre-funding cost estimates, pre-funding schematic design, successful fundraising campaign, and successful final design. This building is shown repeatedly in public presentations, as an example of improving public service and community pride.
Community Outreach/Public Involvement. HGE was retained by the City of Coos Bay Fire Department to perform site analysis for a new fire station building. HGE performed space planning surveys/interviews to determine the department’s space needs. A tour of several fire stations was undertaken to find the best fit for the City. HGE looked at all the sites being considered by the City, presenting preliminary concept sketches for each site to give the working committee a feel for the pros and cons of the different sites under study. A series of working meetings with numerous city council and public presentations ensued to find the best location for the new fire station. HGE put together comparison charts with access, location, truck egress, soil conditions, and cost estimates. The estimates prepared by HGE were used for the successful bond measure community outreach/public involvement campaign.
The new fire station building is a U.S. Green Building Council certified LEED Gold facility. Also included in the scope are building demolition, off-site street improvements, commissioning services coordination, LEED certification, furnishings, landscaped, and irrigation design.
