Joseph A. Slack, AIA, LEED AP
Joseph A. Slack, AIA, LEED APPresident / Principal Architect
Joe is President of HGE and manager of the architectural division in the Coos Bay office. He is the principal-in-charge for all architectural projects assigned to HGE. Joe has held the position of project architect for a wide variety of building types. His involvement has been in all phases of work including negotiation, programming, preliminary design, public meeting representation, construction document preparation, bidding, and construction administration. He has also performed structural investigations, technical feasibility studies, and site master planning.
STEPHANIE MARTELL, RLA, CESCLLandscape Architect/Project Manager
Stephanie is our in-house Landscape Architect who works hand-in-hand with the design team, from conceptual design through to construction administration, to ensure the development of the project site meets ADA, environmental, and zoning requirements while helping to create a functional, practical, and aesthetically pleasing space that reflects the site’s unique identity and cultural heritage. Stephanie joined HGE in 2007 and has worked on a variety of project types including: educational, medical, commercial, residential / multi-family, and landscaping/site improvement projects. She is an expert on plants in the Pacific Northwest and proficient in many graphic design applications. She is also experienced in storm water design as related to site design, including bioswales, filter basins, and rain gardens and is a Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead.
Andrew J. Locati
Andrew J. LocatiProject Architect
Andrew has over 26 years of architectural design and project management experience. He has a broad architectural design background in a diverse variety of projects such as: commercial buildings, historic building restorations and adaptive re-use, waterfront boardwalk design, school district master planning, financial institutions, medical institutions, restaurants, automobile dealership, and numerous residential designs.
Stephen R. Cox
Stephen R. CoxSenior Designer - Emeritus
Stephen Cox, a senior design and project manager, has been employed with HGE Architects Inc., since 1964, until his retirement August 2017. During his tenure, he worked in every project facet from conception to construction management including: Planning, Surveying, Design, and Inspection. He continues to assist our team in the process and coordination required between permit and funding agencies, owner, public, project design team, governmental agencies, and contractor for completion of a successful project. Since 1972, Stephen has been involved in more than 1,600 municipal improvement projects.
Sam Slack
Sam SlackIntern Architect
Sam Slack first started assisting in our office in high school. Sam officially joined HGE in 2018 as an emerging professional on the path to licensure. He prepares AutoCAD and REVIT drawings for preliminary design proposals, design development, and construction document phases of various projects. He has worked as support for HGE’s Architectural Department on all phases of design, and construction administration of various project types.
Amy Marino

Amy Marino is a designer and project manager working toward her architectural license. Amy rejoined HGE Spring 2019 after working for us in 2012 & 2013 and returns with 12 years of experience which includes project programming, planning, interior design and construction development, construction administration and project management.
